Exercise 10

Personal Reflection – Working in Teams

Virtual teams is a new experience for me, it meant working on an objective with people I don't know, despite being in the same course as them for the past five months nobody was given a real opportunity to get off a first name basis. We do have a WhatsApp group that has been a good control mechanism for when a problem needs to be solved for example if someone had a question about the subject or assignment people tend to ask their question in the group chat rather than to the teacher on video call. That is a good thing an a bad thing, the teacher tends to get less communication from students which in turn creates a barrier of fear for others to speak up and give feedback. It does create more conversation between students, given an assignment in smaller groups divides the class, the communication and work effort from all members is great in these smaller groups however I think the vote shows from myself and others we would prefer to work individually. In teams we seem to make the mistake, myself included, of waiting for the deadline to merge together our inputs to the assignment. We don't leave ourselves the necessary time to evaluate all the work we will be graded on. If I could choose to do something different during this remote- working technically difficult era, I would choose to take on more work, to work individually, so I can be graded on my own input.
