Exercise 7 The 5 word story: Once apon a time there was an old man who went to his local shop and bought a big red packet of salt and vinegar crisps and then he went out to the post office to collect his money but he got lost so he called the Guards. When the Guards came they asked where he wanted to go. He told them "to get his money" so they brought him to the post office and he collected his grandmothers money but he lost the money again. What a poor old man. What was the challenges about his task? It was a challenge to construct a sentence when nobody new where the story was heading or what it was about, so we had to wait for our turn and build a sentence based on what was already constructed then just try stay on a similar tangent. What skills did we need to use for this task? There wasn't many skills needed or used during this task other than knowing how to construct a word, a sentence and knowing how to stay on a same tangent so the story could make sense. What co...
Exercise 6 Inside the K   At 20:43 we can see from the camera positioned within the Garda car three guards and one villain. The villain's speech seems slurred and slow and he is stood within one foot of Garda number one. The first sentences is said by the villain "are you ERU", Garda number one if very quick to respond he isn't loud but he is assertive " no I'm not ERU, it doesn't matter what I am, right, I am telling to leave the area now and leave it quietly". The villain responds " I'm leaving". the body language of the three guards I would describe as, ready. The villain cannot be seen from this angle. The guards turn to walk away, garda one tells the villain " go, you have been given a chance" , what I notice at these times 21:55 21:57 guarda two and three remain quiet but move to leave in the same second Garda one moves to leave, but stop to stay in the situation in the same second Garda one was baited back into confli...

Exercise 4  I recently took an online test called BELBINS TEAM ROLES, Belbin categorised characteristics needed to for a functional team, people are able to have one or more of these characteristics that identify their strengths and weaknesses but he believes a perfectly functional team should meet all the criteria that include; Resource Investigator, Team-Worker, Co-Ordinator, Plant, Monitor, evaluator, Specialist, Shaper, Implementer and Completer Finisher. These roles in Belbins' theory play to the individuals strengths and how the individual uses his role to strengthen the team. After taking Belbins' test my top three results were; Innovator: Generating the creative ideas for the team, as an innovator I have a strong imagination and I like to be original. As a creative individual I play a crucial role in the way I approach tasks and solve problems within my team. An innovator prefers to be independent and tends to approach tasks in a scientific way.  Executive: The e...
Exercise 3  How I expect the stages of group development might look as I move through my career with the Gardai: As I enter the Gardai siochána after receiving my training in Templemore I expect I will be excited to begin my new career, along with excitement I expect I will also be a little nervous starting off. I have broken up the five stages of group development and I will explain how I expect it to look and feel. Forming; this stage happens in the beginning in the first days in a new job or when a new team is formed. I would be getting acquainted to other members of the team, I expect that some of the team will possibly already know each other from working together previously or be from the same unit. Whatever the case may be I will be getting to know them and their personality as they will mine. Everyone and everything is new at this stage so uncertainty is high and I will be looking for guidance and leadership as I will be finding my way around. Storming: Is a natural f...
Exercise 2  what is trust? Trust is an ongoing exchange used between people everyday. There are different forms of trust for example, when putting your trust in a person on a personal level it means you believe in them to be honest, reliable and of good character. Trust can be described as an emotion like a natural instinct, or a feeling in which we use to form judgment on a persons character and if we feel they can be trusted. Trust can be earned, it can also be lost and although hard it can be regained.  Example of a trusting relationship? I'm going to use my relationship with my partner as my example of a trusting relationship. my relationship with my partner is built mainly around trust. We both have a mutual trust for each other and without that it would not be a healthy relationship and therefore it wouldn't survive. Trust is a feeling of confidence and security of knowing and believing that we will always be there for each other. Trust in our relationship is not q...
Exercise 1 My understanding of teamwork is, dividing a task among multiple people often colleague's or friends to share the burden of the work, to use time efficiently and to produce a quality of work or outcome delivered from multiple perspectives and efforts. Teamwork is at the centre point of production from goods to services, from manufacture to delivery, from starting line to finish line. Teamwork is the driving force that develops an idea and overcomes obstacles. Teamwork only works when people pull together as one unit and completes a given task. teamwork is connecting, communicating and collaborating. each member of the team contributes and each contributor plays to their own individual strengths.
